" In July of this year, I got into a conversation with the couple sitting next to us in a New York steak restaurant. Only when I had returned to my hotel I found out that the great guy I had been talking to was legendary engineer & record producer Jay Messina (Aerosmith/Supertramp/KISS/Miles Davis). Four months later I am proud to present you our new track Frailty. Written and recorded in our home country The Netherlands, mastered by Jay at his West End Sound Studio in New York."

JES has become an internationally known for her emotionally-charged and often weighty lyrics, but she masters a dazzling new sound on her new track “The One” in collaboration with all-star producers JS16 and Joonas Hahmo releasing through Enhanced Music. The singer/songwriter swaps her pensive, passionate tones for a hopeful and whimsical vibe on “The One,” which is complemented by driving progressive beats and effervescent melodies courtesy of JS16 and Hahmo. “It’s always fun to break the mold of what people expect from you and surprise them with something totally different,” quotes JES about the new release. “A lot of my songs have a more serious emotional feel, but with this one I got to have some fun and break the rules!" As the uplifting aura of “The One” is contagious enough to be a new love anthem, we certainly won’t complain about JES breaking the rules more often.
“The One” features a trio of artists who are all renowned producers and musicians in their own right. Jaakko Salavaara, also known as JS16, is the mastermind behind iconic productions like the smash hit “Freestyler” and international club anthems “Sandstorm” and “Feel the Beat” nearly two decades ago. Joonas Hahmo seems to turn everything he touches to gold, from his multiple hits on the Anjuna labels--such as “Alt+F4” and “Cocktail Bar”--to releases on his own label Hahmo Recordings and beyond, the Finland native has consistently been one of the most talented trance and progressive house producers in the game.
Last but certainly not least is JES, the multitalented singer, songwriter and performer that has left her mark on the hearts of millions with her moving and timeless songs. Her multiple Grammy nominations, sold out shows around the world, and success of her label Intonenation all serve as testaments to JES’s influence on the electronic music scene. Today, JES continues to invest in independent artists, releasing her own music and electronic music’s most promising talent on Intonenation. She has created a constancy of positivity and emotion into the electronic dance music genre. A student of yoga and meditation practices JES, knows that connection & consciousness brings people together, especially in the form of music.
Steve Benjamins has been writing songs since he was ten years-old and realized he could plug keyboards into computers— but it wasn't until he was 26 that he began releasing music publicly. In the five years since then, his output has been prolific: 4 EPs and 9 singles. Benjamins had an exciting 2017. His first single of the year, 'Silence' rode a wave of success. After early exposure on Noon Pacific, Silence was featured on Spotify's official Fresh Finds playlist and several official Sony Music playlists. That exposure drew an audience: Silence was listened to over 300,000 times between Spotify, Soundcloud and Facebook.
'Purification Ritual' was the second single of 2017 and built off the momentum of 'Silence'. It was featured on 'Electronica 2018' and 'Indiemono' before racking up over 140,000 plays on Spotify.
"The word 'loverboy' (opening track) usually refers to a playboy or ladies man— but I wanted to mean it in a literal way: I'm a loverboy because I'm defined by my search for love. It's a song is written to myself. It opens by acknowledging the world is sad. It's easy to stay in bed. It closes by urging me on: there's still so much left in the world."
All songs on this EP are about an internal tension in men. 'Manhood' is about swinging wildly between confident swagger and swarming self-doubt. 'Obscene' is about a reactionary and isolating anger. 'Still In Love With You' is about seeing a broken world and still feeling in love with it.
Manhood is a 5-song EP written and recorded during 2017. It was produced by Stephen James Kerr. All songs were written and performed by Steve Benjamins.
Power House producer Styline and Mexican newcomer Mojavee continue their creative hot streak with new single ‘Right Now’, out today via European imprint PinkStar.
Combining big basslines, driving percussion and sparse, filtered, looping vocal samples that roll up against each other, ‘Right Now’ is firmly designed with the more darkened of dancefloors in mind. A record box weapon that gathers in energy, pace and depth as the track progresses, Styline and Mojavee work seamlessly together, bringing in 80s FX, tumbling drum pad sections and snippets of horn synths, the elements building to develop more and more warmth inside the cut.
“We had two great releases with PinkStar last year,” Styline commented, “and this year we’re keeping things a little more house-y which is perfect for starting off the season. In general, the track is just really about living in the moment. It’s tech-y, it’s driving, you’ve got the vocal sample looping over and over really pushing it forward, I’m really excited to see it make an impact before Miami.”
On the rising Mexican producer, Styline added: “It’s the second time Mojavee and I have worked together, after our single ‘Pina Colada’, and I’m really happy to work with such a talented guy. With the launch of The Power House, you’ll be hearing way more from him. People definitely need to keep an eye on him!”
It’s a sentiment echoed by Mojavee: “I met Styline a few years ago, he reached out to me being super honest and friendly, something I appreciate a lot. We always wanted to work on something together, we’re both big fans of the others’ style and I’m just flat out in love with the drive he puts into his tunes.
“We chose an idea I was working on as Mojavee. It originally had more of a tech house sound but he heard the potential in it and turned it into an absolute dancefloor gem. I feel so proud to release it on PinkStar, I’ve been a huge fan of the PS sound and now we have the opportunity to be part of the family. It feels like Mojavee and the Power House sound are going in the right direction!”
Pop-electronic trio The Swoons have revealed a brand new song, ‘Balance’ that was featured on Spotify's New Music Friday in both France and Canada! Following the release of their recent single ‘Lost’, this song features a dark emotional piano riff, underlying 808s and a delicate vocal to create a dreamy and hypnotic beat.
The Swoons are Matt Underwood, Tony Ann and Giacomo Timbrello. Currently based in LA, but stretching from multiple nations (London, Toronto and LA respectively). Fans of The Chainsmokers will be familiar with Tony’s work already, as he played keyboards on the band’s ‘Memories: Do Not Open’ tour last year, and co-wrote and performed on their latest single ‘Sick Boy’, which was released last month.
The Swoons began as a duo, when Matt and Tony began writing together while studying at Berklee College of Music. After a few early releases, Giacomo (another fellow classmate), joined the group having already collaborated on some of the band’s original productions and remixes.
On ‘Balance’, the band say: "Keeping balance is always a constant struggle whether its personal life, relationships or your job. We’d experienced relationships where it always felt like we were on the edge and no matter what we said we were always one step away from letting go or being let go. However, as we all know letting go of something special to you is much easier said than done. Set over a rhythmic 808 pattern and syncopated piano riff we wanted to recreate that emotion musically over a dreamy future pop setting.
The band are currently working on their debut EP which will be released Spring 2018. Further details to be announced.
