It was 1998 when the Italian trio Eiffel 65 formed by Gabry Ponte, Maury Lobina and Jeffrey Jey released the chart-topper single "Blue", produced by Massimo Gabutti and Luciano Zucchet among the record company Bliss Corporation. To this day BlissCo boasts more than twenty-millions of sold copies.
Today, nearly two decades later, the single "Blue" comes back in the worldwide dance scene, with fresh and renewed sounds. Author and composer of this awesome remake is the musician, disc jockey and sound engineer Bottai, fellow citizen of the trio, born in 1991. The 26-year-old guy from Pesaro, known for his dance/club creations, such as "Loden" "Bringbackthegroove" "K.i.t.t." has already remixed the likes of Alesso, Otto Knows, Roxette, Benny Benassi, Nicole Sherzinger, Taboo (Black Eyed Peas).
We had the pleasure to follow his live exhibition at Tomorrowland few months ago;
the dj also played his live sets at Bamboo in Miami, Escape Amsterdam, Amnesia Ibiza and Ushuaia (w/ Axwell Ingrosso).
Hello Giovanni, when "Blue" was released you were a 7-Years old kid, how did you feel today working on that song?
I can remember me humming Blue in my childhood of course! Little did i know one day i'd be dealing with music and particularly with that song. Over time, Blue has become from an happy memory to one of my favourites song and finally today i had the opportunity to add my taste to the masterpiece. Certainly, i was excited to work with those stems!
Which was the worst and best part in implementing this remix?
When you're going to touch an "untouchable" like Blue, you feel the responsibility to do something really good; so you take the field a little tense, and this could be the "worst" part, but then the melody gets stuck in your head and you start to feel the vibe of the song, and the best part begins.
What kind of music do you listen more, and who are the artists that inspire you most?
I listen to a lot of 70's and 80's music, from funky to synth pop and new wave.
Anyway, i also listen to contemporary artists, my favourites are: the duo Oliver from L.A. Eric Prydz, Flume, Axwell Ingrosso, Moroder and i know lot of my inspiration come from them.
Following your Tomorrowland dj set at Refune stage, we noticed the original musical selection and the resulting positive reactions of the listeners, you included songs from Moby and Eurythmics to Madonna and Depeche Mode, didn't you think that was a bit risky for a major stage like that?
On the contrary, since the beginning i thought that in a stage like that i could have offer the kind of music that represent me and i like most. People at Tomorrowland are in love with music and they like to enjoy all shades of it, as well as people who follow the event in streaming from all around the world. So definitely, i didn't want to play a set that anyone else could! I wanted to mix together tracks from the past i grew up with, and the actual electro and house music that i like most. I was pleased to note then, many people understood my intention and appreciated the idea.
