The game has changed a lot in recent months when considering the Electronic Dance Music scene here in Thailand, as the warriors storm in from all corners of the globe to evolve the love of the scene. The battle grounds on which they play have also expanded from the familiar Bangkok and Phuket warzones with a reach to other provinces across this most blessed of nations.
Not to shy away - Bone Club, in partnership with promotors Gotham, just brought the fight home to Pattaya. Pulling out the big guns – we would say the biggest – when they asked the ultimate EDM Warrior to come throw down a set in the beating heart of the city. Yep, our very one number one in our Top 100 DJ, Martin Garrix blasted his way into the history books of this sleepless city of entertainment when he took to the sage at Bone for his foray in Pattaya. And guess what? Hmm, yeah, we got passes to take our places in the trenches of this historical (even hysterical – at least I was) moment.
So let us flashback to the night when Martin Garrix put Pattaya on the map of hot destinations for all things EDM.
Before we even entered the club, collecting our fancy one of a kind Martin Garrix branded Bone tickets (now a welcome addition to my key chain), the night was buzzing. There was a sea of Garrix fans donning merch (Merchandise for those in the know), so you instantly knew this was going to be a rave like no other seen in the city. I recall a Japanese dude flashing his MG/Japanese flag (which he had obviously traveled with) plus his +X hallmark shades, posing for a selfie whilst letting out a war-cry and it was only 9 pm. Slipping into the club past the stunning Chang and Smirnoff dollies – who would be the envy of any Formula One starting line – we enter with free-flowing refreshments before stepping into the arena where the bass boxes where already rattling the frames of the early birds.
Upon entering Bone, instantly, your eyes are drawn upward to the jaw-dropping modern take on a chandelier which virtually covers the entire dancefloor – dripping ethereal light on all onlookers. Snapping out of the trance it became obvious we wouldn't be going thirsty during the evening's fun as the floor was surrounded by water holes – known in lay terms as bars - to keep us hydrated.
The floor was already bouncing to the banging beats of future and big room house pelting out of the festival-friendly stacks, courtesy of a collection of homegrown talents from far and wide.
Most notable of the warm-up DJs was a guy going by the name of Wonder – his finely tuned selection of tracks had the crowd going wild – elevated more when he jumped on the stage to call out to all the mental cases amongst them. Noted, this took the night to the next level and just when we thought he had pulled out all his tricks – ohh no... an angel took to the stage, in the form of local singer/songwriter Tookta, to serenade the crowd with her magical tones. Covering a range of popular tracks from the likes of the Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris and the like to perfection, whilst Wonder seamlessly pumped out the instrumentals to accompany her – united on stage, this pair drastically lifted the atmosphere in Bone just before the main act.
You are sure to hear more from these two in later publications of DJ Mag Asean but for now, back to the action and what everyone on the night was there for really, or who in fact...
For the first time in the night, silence befell the arena creating an odd atmosphere of suspense and anticipation. Though not for long, as a small army of Garrix foot soldiers took to the stage to prepare. They began to set the ambiance with a selection of deep melodic waves, signature of Martin's recent style, to warm up the crowd but the animals rocking the floor had another idea entirely... Not waiting for MG to take to the stage they were already totally mad for it. So you can imagine the reaction once Martin emerged to own the night – yes, it was totally electrifying!
The crowd went completely mental before he even dropped his first beat. Taking to the decks, Garrix sent the crowd wild for a night of euphoric hysteria – limbs almost detaching from the torsos of fans – as drop after drop rolled through every element within the confines of Bone Club's superstructure.
Martin simply owned the ravers for the rest of the night as they reacted to his every action, and he dropped some numbers that even had my mind popping into the furthest reaches of the universe – the White Stripes Seven Nation Army Remix being one such tune. The man mastered the atmosphere perfectly and even managed to pull a cheeky selfie whilst in the mix – kudos – probably an instant insta...(Instagram, youth will know this) Wasn't hard to see why he is the number one in our Top 100 DJ list. Even the V.I.P was totally raving away – bopping on tables and going wild, which anyone who has been to these type of events in Thailand would know is a rare event.
Bone Club broke every rule, and some, with this introduction of the highest caliber in the EDM world and have set the bar for Pattaya's club scene... With plenty more acts on the cards- such as Sick Individuals next weekend - and expecting a lot more, this venue will be one to watch and you can hook up with them on any of the links below.
