Today on our column let's talk about social media and press from an artist perspective.

As we are in the electronic music field, is not a surprise digital media being something very important. Big media names are very important but there's also about what's trending because we all know that internet share more and distribute better what is trending at the moment. Ok, ok Kraken, can you speak English, please?
First, let's skip the part of "woke up one day and I was famous", we have no space for this type of illusion right now. Also, let's skip that absurd saying that " Marketing solve everything", because a good marketing will high light the artist you are, it will not create an artist for you.
Let's talk about the real thing, the artist, the music, the goals and the strategy. As I said before a good marketing can't create an artist for you, because the first thing the media will want to know is the artist behind the song. An artist job can be different in many ways, especially because you can't disconnect the artist from his product, his song. So people that feel related to the song wants to know more about the artist, don't forget guys, we are always searching for connections. And the media will ask you that, and you will feel nervous like when you were in a school exam, but now you ask me, how will you get nervous when you just need to talk about you? You will be nervous because you will be meeting you for the first time, you the artist, not "you" yourself. You are not talking to a friend about your day, you will be talking to the world about your art, how did you saw that why did you thought that was important to be shared.
On your social media, you will have the opportunity of sharing your perspective they way you wanted people to look at it. But don't fool yourselves, it's hard and it takes a lot of responsibility to do it. Now I have a team of people helping me, but it wasn't always like this, which made me study a lot to understand how I wanted to work. Remember, your job as an artist doesn't end when you finish the song, you have to take care of the way people will reach your message. I feel that all my years of study and trying to create my structure as an artist made me well-prepared to optimize and have more results with my team. And believe me, you will love the meaning of this word "Optimizations" (the action of making the best or most effective use of a situation or resource.) - Read it out loud, this means more results and less bullshit. - sorry for that word -
You will have a schedule of releasing songs, tours, and it will be well planned by your team to get the right exposure through the press and your social media. It's been getting each day more important that you have your target audience very clear and reachable than just having the possibility to reach random huge audiences. The artist that have strong connections with their fan base and audience that have the same interest, is now having more freedom and possibilities to shape their career.
If I talked about a recipe of how to do marketing or how to talk with the media, I would be lying and showing you the wrong direction. But for me, my key is knowing the area you have to improve, get familiar with the technics and adapt to what you believe as an artist. Don't forget, you will always think that you could do better, and you will realize that you are in fact improving.

<![CDATA[Art is a Full-Time Job - Part 2]]>Wed, 16 May 2018 07:36:46 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/art-is-a-full-time-job-part-2
Electronic music has been a great field for musicians to explore their creativity, but in the same way, this music genre has provided strong connections between people and their own minds. I know how weird this sounds, but I am an artist and with my experience working with electronic music, I can say that weird things happen all the time. We all know frequency and how powerful some frequencies can be, we can almost say that frequency is the rhythm of the atoms, so it can transform everything.
As a musician, songwriter and singer I have more than 10 years studying music, and some parts of electronic music intrigue me, this is not only happening in my songs but many other artists' songs, from different places and with different ages too. Most of the times are about uniting people by admitting how alone we feel and there is always a side of us we are meeting for the first time. As an artist, it is very nice to see other artists using music to help people finding themselves and having so much care of the way they receive the messages. Because it's art's job to show the reality or give hope for a better reality to society. The responsibility is not about predicting things or saying the right stuff but improving the connections between people by helping them see themselves without judgments.

Having a career in the music industry is well-done projects/strategies and numbers, but making art is something else, an artist making music is about transformation. Your expectations should be outside the paper, you must bring a new concept and this takes time. So the strategy is having the possibility of "having the time you need" to create art because business will always be business, is a negotiation, but what you are selling is an idea, is the possibility of the connection. It is more like an exchange when it is art because not all the sounds are songs.

It is a complex concept, I know many artists prefer only to talk about their art, but I think it's nice to understand and keep studying and improving the relationship between arts and people. We can do more than what we already know, it's not supposed to be enough. In order to do that you must be ambitious and different, you must have the hunger to overcame yourself and create things that you did not expect. But let's take a moment for "responsibility" because I'm not talking about you being ignorant of the risks and just doing anything to be recognised as something different, I'm talking about you calculating your strategies because you studied hard and you care about your music. You want to deliver the best, you take care of how people will get to your song and how your song will transform them.

Today the lifestyle and tech article is focused on the electronic music industry.

Especially on that line that distingue the electronic music world from other genres such as pop, rap, and hip-hop.

By the definition itself, most of the music genres today are electronic because they use electronic instruments and effects, not always because they want to, but mostly because sounds better on the way we listen to music today, the digital sound.

But electronic music has been a side industry for so long that has also developed particular structures through time. Some of them are, in fact, very effective like the high quality of the festivals and the professional level artists use their social media to sell and interact with their fan base or audience. But let's not full ourselves there's a lot be learned, I saw many electronic music artists, especially DJs falling into "comfortable" ways that won't make them grow. The most common of these situations is the false "I made it", "now everything will be taking care of by the booking agent" or "the record label", or "the manager", just name the excuse that fits in this position. Our fast growing industry and the short path between the artist on the studio to the stage, most of the times, gives the artist the wrong impression, that from now on this would be like a spinning will that will only keep growing, like more gigs, more fans, more money, and everything you had sacrificed to be there is just part of the past. Believe me, that's the wrong impression.

I had the pleasure, and to be honest, the lucky, to interview big names of our industry. I could ask what I wanted and as I'm not a Dj, I fixed myself on the artistic perception and how they saw them selfs in the industry. It was not a surprise but was very reassuring to see how they simply described their ideas and careers to be part of a huge structure with different "departments" that worked all together. Not only music but radios, channels, the whole concept of visuals like clothing, videos, photos... All this been taking care very seriously by a team of people, with the artist setting the directions and being fully aware of the processes of production, marketing, and finances of each project. All of it together and with more than 5 of 6 projects at the time. I have to say, I can only understand some parts right now that I'm dealing with more than 3 projects and as they said, everything is in your hands including the people on your team, and with that being said you already know that you are in their hands too, because the success of your name, of your project, depends of the well functioning of every process.

Sounds confusing? It is, this also means nights without sleeping, thinking about solutions, ideas and how to make them work right away because the only thing nobody active in the electronic music industry has is time. Everything needs to be showing not only progress but results right away. I'm not even talking about competition as many people will think, I know there is a lot of DJ's and Electronic Music artists, and the competition is healthy most of the times, but what I'm talking about is how to match your own expectations of how your career should be at this moment. Most of the times you will think " Damn, I'm already late!"

Believe me, knowing everything you can about marketing and finances of a project is a must. If you want to have good ideas and want to see them happening in your career first you will need more information about how to make them happen. You have to be a dreamer just don't be sleeping all the time. Our industry is getting more independent each day, this means possibilities and freedom but it also means responsibilities. It doesn't matter your age, make it happen.

Working with art is a full-time job, you must be creative all the time.

<![CDATA[Experience Is What We Seek!]]>Mon, 30 Apr 2018 07:16:43 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/experience-is-what-we-seek
Before we start to explore our favourite festivals we need to talk about what we seek!

Everybody has their own story about how they discover EDM and how much they love Electronic Music Festivals. And if you ask the music Industry, they will explain to you with numbers how much the "millenniums" generation spread this music genre through social media and streaming services, also combine with the biggest technological upheaval since the industrial revolution.

As I talked before on the last article, Electronic Music fans expect a high-quality festival structure like scenographic stages with high technology, high-quality sound system, diverse food area, relaxing spaces, different stages for each style of Electronic Music, security teams, organized bathroom area, updated press 24/7, Live Session on the festival official channels and so much more!

There is an entire plan behind this Industry since Dj unstopping music production, touring, marketing and fan base updates to be booked on better lineup positions on the big festivals to the festival promotion and press during the whole year on their official channels and on the most important media of the Electronic Music world. Is not only about music, is about how your music will be played, how will you touch their hearts, and this takes time because what you are really doing is creating an experience.

Another thing that helped Electronic Music is in fact, obvious, the "Electronic" sound has more power because is more adapt to the high-quality digital system of the big festivals. So it's natural this strong references we hear of electronic music in other music genres, sometimes on the original song and other times in the version only for the performances.

But until now there's nothing new here, so how the festivals are improving themselves to create this experience? Festivals today are an entire long year experience because Electronic Music became a lifestyle. You will have big playlists on the streamings with songs for every moment. Festivals today are an entire long year experience because Electronic Music became a lifestyle. You will have big playlists on the streamings with songs for every moment. Electronic Music is not only something for partying, Alan Walker, The Chainsmokers and many other artists like myself can prove that with our original tracks on a streaming format, which can even be called the new Pop Electronic. Still, on a daily routine, you will probably be inside the electronic music groups on social media, yes they are very active! (Not counting the boring ones that people don't say anything but "Listen to my track! It's awesome").
Now moving to the season routine, when the big festivals release the trailers, to the first line up and the beginning of the tickets sell. If you got your ticket, you are in, if you didn't, now you can still be in through the internet on the festival official channel. It's not the same thing but you will never be alone!

Is very important also to comment how this lifestyle influences the costumes and fashion at the festivals and electronic parties. Our first post was about the most classic one, but now we are bringing this comfortable and mystic one. If you are going to an Electronic Festival, you need to get your imagination set one the right direction but you can't forget how exhausting this amazing experience will be so don't forget about the "comfortable" quality of your clothing. You can always create the magical vibe with braids and makeup. Take a look at our choice of "Comfortable and Mystic".

<![CDATA[When we are touched by the magic.]]>Mon, 23 Apr 2018 14:47:57 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/when-we-are-touched-by-the-magic
We decided to make the article of lifestyle and tech of this week differently.
We schedule wonderful articles about the festivals lifestyle, but since what's happened last Friday we can't think of anything else.

This Artist had mark fans and festivals across the globe, an inspiration to many artists of this new generation like myself. He made the difference in Electronic Music and what he did and made people feel will continue forever.

Avicii really did magic with his art and festival became a live fairytale when he played. One of the best moments that impacted me in electronic music was when I saw this.

Some artists of electronic music bring this special purpose of making people feel inside a magical world, where all the problems cannot enter. And with festivals like Tomorrowland, this can be even stronger. Avicii had this since the beginning and touched so many fans across the globe. Songs like "Bromance" that was released even before he became Avicii, followed by "Levels" and then Fade Into Darkness", the list simply goes one and I can't pick just one song to talk about.

Electronic Music created the concept behind P.L.U.R (Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect), which translates a lot into the personality of electronic music fans and artists. Where the fans are called music lovers, and the standards of the performances live need to be much more than seeing the artists. Music lovers expect to be mesmerized and impacted by sound, light and a story, they need to feel in their skin and be part of the magic. So the festivals organizations and the artist calculate every detail to make this experience life-changing. It's really a huge responsibility but everyone involved is very dedicated, I know it sounds unreal but you know what I mean. You feel part of something.

People need to trust that the art will always show them a life worth living, even when our problems seem to suffocate us, a song can take you out of this reality so you can see a better solution. Electronic Music has been worried about that since the beginning. It's only about dancing, or screaming or making something commercial. It became commercial because it touched people, but was born independent e grow up this way. It's a universal music genre, electronic music festivals are a house of every culture in the world and they all feel part of something.

It's very hard to say goodbye to this great Fairytale Keeper. We all felt very lucky to be touched by his music and performances. He was unique and the power of this artist was so strong that will show a lot of great things inspired by him, it will last forever.

<![CDATA[Festivals are my lifestyle!]]>Mon, 16 Apr 2018 05:52:22 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/festivals-are-my-lifestyle
If you love Electronic Music, you are a festival creature!

Historically the word "festival" was related to religious celebrations, for us of Electronic Music might still have this sacred meaning because is where we can feel the art through music, performances, amazing scenographic stages and surround by crowds of crazy electronic music lovers like ourselves.

We can even say that we created a revolution on the concepts of festivals, where now, is like Disneyland for grown-ups. Every detail is well planned and the fans demand a high quality of festival experience, what is making other festivals adapt and even adding an Electronic Music stage or line up. In other words, is very hard to think about at least 10 worldwide structure festivals without mentioning the Electronic Music Industry.

What is with festivals that brings out the best in people in uniting different cultures? Music and the messages! I am a composer of Electronic Music, and I can say how much care we take to build a song for a festival, most of us, singer, producers, DJs or composers, try our best to provide music that would change people's energy and making them feel the "magic" of that moment on the festival.

So we are starting now this column to talk about lifestyle and tech, Festival Season in Asia starts in the second semester of the year, so we will have enough time to prepare ourselves with Festival Lifestyle, Electronic Music Trends, and Tech.

Our first article brings the classic "Wild" festival look, representing the magic those events make us feel and be part of. This look can be found in many festivals of Electronic Music. Is definitely impressive how the fans create the costumes and accessories to be their own character. It became a habit and translates the creativity Electronic Music Inspires, nothing better than art creating art.

<![CDATA[A Letter to the DJs in Art]]>Thu, 15 Mar 2018 10:03:28 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/a-letter-to-the-djs-in-art
This week we had the International DJ Day, the idea came from World DJ Fund and Nord off Robbins Music Therapy, this last one is a British organisation that has an amazing purpose dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people with music.

To also celebrate this important profession in the Music Industry I will use a quote by the huge maestro Igor Stravinsky when he was questioned about ruining the classics when he was composing his own ballet. He replied "You respect, but I love".
Many DJs suffer rude criticism about the legitimacy of their songs because it's common the use of samples, obvious references to other songs and artists. We always have the arguments about originality even when it's permitted by Music Industry licenses and copyrights. We all know that the process of licenses will improve to make the relationship between the artist and artist collaborator easier and fairer on the profits distribution, especially when blockchain's technology already working for Music.
But today I believe we need to discuss the importance of the DJ in art and the love that these professionals have for music. I'm not a DJ, I'm a singer and songwriter but working with Pop Electronic, Dubstep, and House Music in the last five years, I've been working and meeting DJ's from around world, besides studying every aspect I could about Electronic Music impact on art and people.

Art itself, in my opinion, is when you express an idea + feeling through a song, a picture, a photo, a movie or a sculpture. Or as a kid simply described to the artist Vitor Hugo Zayas "Art is when you draw the heart of something." So naturally, an artist is someone sensitive enough to be impacted by something and courageous enough to express it to the world. The way something impacted you shouldn't prevent you from making art, after all, what is wrong with art inspiring another artist to create art?! It's feeding the purpose.

So my friends DJ's, I wish every day that you may be inspired and creative so people can be touched by your songs, your performances, your festivals, your radios shows and social media groups. I'm really glad of working with DJ's all this time, I'm glad to be part of the electronic music industry and I'm so proud of you guys.
Electronic Music is a family based on inspiration, love, and music, so thank you DJ's because as Tomorrowland say, you are the fairytale keepers!
Congrats on your day.

<![CDATA[Are you ready for the next wave?]]>Thu, 01 Feb 2018 09:13:58 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/are-you-ready-for-the-next-wave
A lot of improvements are coming our way on music industry! Let’s talk about Spotify’s attention on the remixes and the revolution of blockchain finding their way to the music market.

We all know how our industry is improving each day and “veteran” artists say that they couldn’t even dream of the world we are living today with so many independent artists rising and having full control of their careers.
But I bet you were too busy trying to find your way that you couldn’t imagine something like this would be possible so soon. I was already planning to write the article about blockchain because it blew my mind, but before getting to the main dish I also would like to talk about Spotify new improvements for remixes. I’m not a Dj, I’m a singer and songwriter but I’m part of the Electronic Industry, I stand for DJs and I will always support the importance of remixes for the whole industry.

Let’s start!

Spotify is the biggest streaming service, and we all know how streamings are one of the biggest ways people listen to music today. But that’s old talk, what’s the news The Kraken? Remixes are now with some features that were only possible for “Original Song” stuff, such as the appearance in the “Popular and Latest Releases section of the remixer’s artist profile, remixes streaming will count towards the remixer’s artist monthly listeners and song-level insights on the Spotify For Artist, which in my opinion is a huge and useful tools, because every artist should use these insights to plan better their career strategies to grow their fan base. But most important, for the independent artist because you will have to create your own way, so gather information always, you depend on good decisions. This was a natural way of streaming services because a huge part of Electronic Music is made of the independent artist, and remixes are a need if they have the audience the service have to adapt. But why they are running? Why are the improvements coming so fast at this particular moment?

The answer is Blockchain.

Many of you know blockchain related to bitcoins and lot of other areas but they are coming for the music industry now. For many years artist been suffering not having enough control of their music like being the first to invest and the last to receive the profits, like not being possible or having too much trouble to give somebody licenses to remix your songs or use on a movie and more… The blockchain is coming to give these process transparency, you will be able to receive for each play in a more fair way, you’ll be able to create contracts for other professionals or fans to collaborate with you, do a remix or use your song for a movie.

Some new streaming services and websites are using blockchain right now and it’s a subject that’s been discussed over and over in the music industry. And the effects are already here, is more competitive now for the companies, and competition is good, cause improvements, which means that a lot of good changes are coming our way!

<![CDATA[How to be inspired when you don't have time!]]>Sat, 13 Jan 2018 08:45:21 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/how-to-be-inspired-when-you-dont-have-time
Most of the Dj's and artist of electronic music began their careers as a home producer or even a party Dj, and that's when we didn't have the busy life we have today when we used to have that precious time to research, to find stuff to be inspired and create new songs. But how we are going to do this now? When most of our time is consumed by the music business, promoting or on a tour?
I bet you used to think how wonderful would be when you'll have your own tour on different countries and how much cultures you would dive in to be inspired, I bet you used to dream this when you were producing at your room, in your hometown. And now, you arrived on that point, but you realized that time is money and you will only stay in that country enough time for your gig and the place you will mostly spend your time will be the airport. Or you are dealing with the fan base, releasing new singles and music videos, what you thought it would be so easy like you would have time to do everything when in reality you have to be part of every process so it will be done in time and in your artist concept. But it's your dream, things are great, and this is really how it works, but you are not a machine, you need to produce and show the world new stuff but to do that you need to drink the water of creativity somewhere, and you are too tired, too stressed to do it in the same way you used to at the beginning. There's no going back, what could work now?!
What I do began with just a few folders on the computer and now is basically a library. The process is similar to a home producer, every producer knows they have to build a library of sounds and instruments that will help him create the sound that is on his mind. So usually you can download libraries, record samples... Until you have your own lab and a good producer is never satisfied, always keep searching for more. But as an artist you will have to search even more than just songs or sounds, you will have to search stories, art, cultures, other artists... to inspired you emotionally enough so you can create a new concept, song, image or even a strategy of promotion. My mother is a scientist and she taught me well how to research and gather information. Because of you as an artist, you are already sensitive and creative but as a producer, to stimulate your mind and even have the right references so you can bring your idea into reality you have to have the library. You want to know your advantage, internet, cell phone or your MacBook, it's your library, do it the way you wanted, only you need to understand it.

Want to know more tips? how to unite the theme of your song, with a music video in the same concept, that is also on "The Trend" of the moment and have everything to do with your current artist concept. Yes, it seems impossible, especially because the trend last so little and you have to have everything ready and already for promotion to catch that wave. Like I always say, it's not when you release a single or a music video, it's when people already listen to it. And with your library, you will have more changes to be on time.

And as I said before here, time is money. Don't ignore your creative process, make it work for you, or this will cause you problems.

How is your library? What do you mean? Is it there a site or an app?
Yes, I can give you a hundred of tips!
If you read articles, search the magazines, you are doing right!
If you want to know more about it just comment below!

<![CDATA[USUAL THINGS OF SUCCESS]]>Fri, 25 Aug 2017 06:00:47 GMThttp://djmagasean.com/tech--lifestyle/usual-things-of-success

Everyone has their own career and with that being said, you understand that there is no rules or recipe for success. And obviously, everyone has their own perception of what success is. But after talking and having all theses interviews on Tomorrowland, with big names such as Armin Van Buuren, Don Diablo, Alan Walker, Mike Mago, Julian Jordan … You start realizing some facts that contribute to a solid career and eventually the success in the Electronic Music World. My way of seeing things is already different because as an artist, I’m not a Dj. I work with DJs, I’m a singer and songwriter with a passion for this music genre that makes me write and produce the most different songs and lyrics. But to make music a career, we are all in the same boat, and truly, information, research, and knowledge are the three things that will help us to prevent old mistakes.

Ok, until this point I haven’t share any tips that I pick up, so let’s press play and taking notes!

To the ones that last for the longest careers, they all know that their name is, in fact, a company, it means a great team of people working hard every day to keep building this structure that everyone sees as one person.

Side projects connected to your main product (Music), is a must. I’m not saying you should start building projects just to have them and look like a busy artist. I’m saying that you should explore your concept in other areas that will push your music even further as long as you have it all connected to what you want to say with your art. So if anyone tells you that you can’t do anything else but music if you want to reach success, you can prove they are wrong showing these names that are record labels, radios, clothing lines, and are always involved in new collaborations.

As an artist and a songwriter. for me one of the most important things are “ What do you want to say with your art?” and as a reporter, I ask many of them this same question. Every artist that have their answer clear, have the control of their career and really strong fan bases. I think that you should explore different feelings and sounds but music is a communication, so if you want people to understand you, you have to be clear. Even when you want to say you are confused.

Remember that you are not alone and many people can relate to this and become your real fans that will support you. When you have those people as your fans you will see how much love you will have to your heart. And as Don Diablo say “You just feel an obligation to make those people proud.”

Basically, you need to have your heart and brain ready to work. Your brain will tell you where you want to go and help you build up a strategy and your heart will fill your music with feelings and you’ll be sensible enough to catch and use that sound and lyric that connects all the hearts.

Sounds cheesy I know, but music is like falling in love. You have to be passioned to make it, for the feeling, for the sound, for the people.

Most of the times we only see the outside, we only see where our idols are at the moment. But believe me, the journey is not boring and is where the truth is, so the success you are looking for is, in fact, a journey.
